Schenker Deutschland AG expands Hildesheim facility into a service center - Setting the stage for integrated logistics solutions.
Schenker Deutschland AG now offers its customers in the Hanover region even better conditions for integrated contract solutions.
Germany’s leading provider of integrated logistics acquired a state-of-the-art facility in Hildesheim and transformed it into a multi-user logistics center. DB Schenker Logistics already serves customers like Robert Bosch Car Multimedia GmbH, the Bosch starter and alternator plant in Hildesheim, vehicle electronics manufacturer Blaupunkt, and MAN, one of the leading commercial-vehicle manufacturers.
“Thanks to our shared-services solution, which we recently began offering in Hildesheim, our industrial and commercial customers are now able to design their logistics processes to be much more economical,” says Dr. Michael Kluger, Member of the Management Board of
Schenker Deutschland AG responsible for Contract Logistics/SCM, explaining the advantages of the solution. “It is almost always more efficient for customers to share a logistics center than to operate their own, especially if capacities vary as is the case with seasonal market fluctuations.”The multi-user logistics center offers the perfect conditions for implementing demanding logistics processes relating to activities such as storage, distribution and shipping. Schenker has access to a total storage area of 22,500 m2, which features a fully automatic high-rack warehouse and a roughly 10,000 m2 block-stacking area with room for up to 22,000 pallets.
“The site is particularly well suited to high-value and sensitive goods due to its solid infrastructure,” explains Hansgeorg Böttcher, Head of the Hanover Logistics Branch of Schenker Deutschland AG. Sophisticated warehouse technology means that the majority of work in Hildesheim is fully automated: from automatic retrieval of parts from the high-rack warehouse to moving them to one of seven picking locations. There employees collate shipments and send them on to packing stations for inspection and packing. Each order is checked once more and given a label and packing slip before shipment.
Schenker Deutschland AG offers the full range of contract logistics and comprehensive services for complex delivery chains – from coordinating deliveries to managing dispatching, including import, export and customs clearance.
